Bucklands is a 5th generation family farm in the Steytlerville district, in the Karoo.  We are about 150 km from Port Elizabeth, 47 km from Steytlerville, 185 km from Graaff Reinet, and 100 km from Patensie and the Baviaanskloof.

The farm is well known for its prestine beauty, eagle and leopard conservation programs and eco friendly farming methods.

There are 6 major plant biomes forming part of our floura, resulting in about 7 000 plant species.  (Europe has 700 plant species.)  We have over 200 bird species, including 4 eagle species of which the black eagle and fish eagle are commonly seen and several breeding pairs are permanent.  Visitors will have lots of game to see on day and night game drives and kudu, mountain reedbuck, duiker and steenbuck abounds.

Bucklands is ideally situated for a weekend break away from PE, but close enough to the Baviaans Mega Reserve and the Addo Elephant National Park, to combine these destinations in one holiday.

BUCKAROO EVENTS hosts adventure sports events such as 4x4, Mountain Biking, Trail Running, Multi-day Hiking, Extreme Triathlons and more.

The Buckaroo Events all happen at, or start on the farm Bucklands, a Karoo sheep and guest farm at the foot of the Cockscomb Mountain, in the Steytlerville district, Eastern Cape.

THE COCKSCOMB CLASSIC MTB AND TRAIL RUNNING EVENT – 6 APRIL 2019

REGISTRATION

In April 2018 we had the inaugural Cockscomb Classic MTB on Bucklands Guest Farm in the Steytlerville district. 82 riders entered in the 3 races of the day, and they all agreed: It was BIG FUN!!

The now famous 103 km Conqueror, the main event of the day, was dubbed the hardest race over this distance in the country! With very good reason! But, as proved by 8 of the 12 riders who made the attempt, it is doable! So the challenge is out: Are you a Conqueror?! Then you can come prove it – the race for 2019 is registered and entries will open soon.

This year we will have 4 races for the day, and a track for the kiddies. But there is more: We invite the trail runners to come too, and give the opportunity to combine the two disciplines for those interested in a biathlon.

The Conqueror is the main race of the Cockscomb Classic event, and is probably the most difficult in its class in the country. The upside is that the route is absolutely scenic, well marked and well organized. The hardest section of the race starts 16 km from the start, making the end of the race very enjoyable. This race is tough as nails, real deep mountain riding, with sections too steep to ride. This race breeds conquerors, and if you can do this, you can do them all! It is a must do for the experienced mountain biker in RSA!The Conqueror is the main race of the Cockscomb Classic event, and is probably the most difficult in its class in the country. The COCKADOODLE is a fast, relatively easy race, ideal for sub 80 km racers. It is scenic and follows gravel roads right to the foot of the Cockscomb mountain.
