The Blougat Cave

For those seeking an extraordinary and immersive adventure, Bucklands Guest Farm offers the Blougat Cave Experience—a unique opportunity to sleep in a historic cave within the remote Grootriviers Poort. This guided excursion offers a rare chance to experience what it might have been like for the early Bushmen who once lived in this rugged landscape.

Located on the banks of a large waterhole, ideal for swimming, the Blougat Cave provides a raw and authentic experience. The cave is small and rugged, accommodating groups of 2 to 5 people. It is not cozy by modern standards, but rather offers a chance to step back in time and experience life in its most elemental form, much like the Bushmen would have. A moderate fitness level is required for the 45-minute hike, which includes some boulder hopping to reach the cave.

The Blougat Cave Experience includes a 1-hour 4x4 drive to the cave's starting point, use of rucksacks if needed, bedding for the night, as well as supper and breakfast. Your guide, Hannes, will not only lead the way but also share fascinating stories about the area, giving you insight into the land’s history.
